X Shue Pen Hong Kong Supervisor - Disabled Social Worker Director General of the Service Society
As a veteran social worker in Hong Kong, I never thought I would set foot in Shenzhen to do social work. However, since the development of social work in Shenzhen started the year before last, it was the right time for me to work as a social worker supervisor in Shenzhen. One day, I shared with the social workers a foreign language movie, My sister's keeper, adapted from the novel of the same name by American writer Jodi Picoult.

The story is about eleven-year-old Anna, who was born an in vitro fertilization (IVF) baby, and whose genes have been genetically aligned by medical technology to be identical to those of her sister, Kate, who has leukemia. She is destined to continue her sister's life by donating stem cells, bone marrow, organs and tissues. When Kate's kidneys fail when Anna is eleven years old, Anna can't stand the medical treatment and goes to court to fight for the right to use her own body, i.e., to prohibit her parents from signing her up for another kidney transplant. The movie describes the significance of love and survival. There are many right and wrong issues in life that are difficult to choose, but one thing that is truly eternal is the sincere and deep love between family members.

At the end of the story, it is revealed that Anna's decision to go to court was entirely Kate's, who felt that her life had come to an end and she didn't want to live any longer. She made a memory book for her mom and put all her most precious memories in it. Of course, the mom has no choice but to watch her daughter leave in pain, but in the hearts of her family, Kate's life and strength will never leave.

I watched this movie a few times, every time I watched it, I was moved to tears, and I always feel that there are too many things in life that are not expected and cannot be controlled, even if life can not be kept, but there is one thing that can be kept forever, it is a sincere and profound love.

When a person can face the life of the go or stay, the most precious thing in front of us is to embrace the people we love and watch the seagulls flying in the sky. .

What is social work? I often hear the general public ask this question. Social work is a profession that undertakes social services, to design services, to implement services, to face a variety of people and to meet the needs of people. Often, social workers have to face a variety of life and death, and they have to cultivate a strong heart in order to withstand the impact of spiritual tearing.
